City of Heroes

New postby LyleAustin » Tue Jul 06, 2004 12:53 am

Well, I've been playing CoH for about 3 months now. Bill got the game about a week ago, and I just heard that the infection has spread to Bud now. One of the best things about this game is the ability to sidekick a lower level player so they can play with you without having to worry about being too low a level. The other great thing is the options of designing your costume, you are really able to customize your appearance.

I play frequently on the Freedom Server, and occasionally on the Virtue Server. Here are my Toons...

Freedom Server Toons

Lyle Austin - Lvl 18 - Science Controller, Mind Control / Empathy (Healing) This is my Main Hero, the one I prefer to play if I'm by myself. And just so you know, it's really great hearing the boss villain warning his hench to be on the look-out for me.

Solenopsis - Lvl 8 - Mutant Tanker, Invulnerability / Fire Melee

Madame Curie - Lvl 7 - Science Defender, Radiation Emission / Radiation Blast

Disassemble - Lvl 7 - Technology Scrapper, Claws / Invulnerability

SeXXXy Boi - Lvl 7 - Natural Defender, Empathy / Psychic Blast

Hell-Geyser - Lvl 8 - Magic Blaster, Fire Blast / Fire Manipulation

The other two were experimental and level 5 and lower, so I'm not very interested in preserving them.

Virtue Server Toons

I play on this server as part of the EvilAvatar.com weekly Saturday Night game. They also play on Friday nights, but I haven't committed to that game, just playing then occasionally.

A Lusty Alien - Lvl 17 - Science Controller, Mind Control / Empathy (This is a copy of my Lyle Austin toon on Freedom server)

OmniGuard - Lvl 5 - Technology Defender, Force Field / Electrical Blast

Gantu - Lvl 5 - Technology Blaster, Assault Rifle / Devices

:D What the hell kind of hero name is "Lyle Austin"? :D

(Just kidding)

I love the "Madame Curie" and "Disassemble" toons, but I've got to admit I find the "SeXXXy Boi" toon somewhat disturbing. :?

My first toon is "Coloumb" a Mystical electricity blaster. (Something simple to start.) He's 3rd level already and I've only played him once. After the tutorial, I chased Bill's tanker around a while. I'll play around a bit and come up with something else later.

My first impression is that the game's pretty cool, but I wish they had as much variation in powers as they do in costume.

I have only created two toons, all on Freedom server:

~ Conrad Armstron (no "g") - Lvl 9 Mutant Tanker

~ Orange Country - Lvl 9 Science Blaster

And I agree with the :? about "SeXXXy Boi". LOL. However, I have a lvl 1 experimental defender named Porn Queen (hot female as close to naked as I could make) who might go well with him. LOL. :P Not sure I can bring myself to play her though. But she's fun to look at on the character select screen.

Oh, I definately think Porn Queen and SeXXXy Boi have to team up. But first, SeXXXy Boi has to get a sidekick named Pole Smoker.

Does anybody know how to make the toons dance in CoH? I see toons all the time with boom boxes, boogying away. We've got to do that when we all have Blue Man toons.

Actually, you begin dancing as soon as you give the boombox emote. You can give the "/emote dance" by itself and it cycles through different silly dances, but there's no boombox. So, your toon sorta looks insane. I've had a lot of fun with it today. :)

BTW: DD hit 4th and Coloumb is 5th.

And, as you can see in the galllery thread, I've created Blue Man 2. He's just finished the tutorial and is 2nd.

Well, then join me tonight.

BillMoroney wrote:regarding the monotony. EQ can be monotonous too, but there are many other pursuits in the game (quests, tradeskilling, farming, selling, trading, etc., etc.).

...and I don't really enjoy any of those things. The quests blow, tradeskilling is boring, second only to farming and I only do that (along with trading/selling) to make plat. My fun comes (mostly) from grouping/teaming and from seeing what cool new things my character can do. (So far flying is the best). I enjoy it when a group works well together. (I enjoy it when I solo and things work well also, but not as much.) I don't much like it in either game when things go to shit.

Regardless, it's the hunt/camp/mission/LDoN that is fun. I have enough PITA detail in real life. I don't need it in my games. CoH is simpler that way and I don't mind at all. I also like the level of control that CoH gives you over your character development. Yes, there are fewer abilities, but you get to choose them. In EQ, once you choose class, they're all the same. Only differences are in equipment. Yes, there are a lot of classes. And yes, there are many, many choices in equipment (which CoH might benefit from also). But, I like the ease and control of CoH.

Also, did you read my argument here: http://budcald.server272.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=1652#1652 in my most recent post. Basicallly, if you can't find a character you can get into, no amount of arguing from me is going to help. I tried almost a dozen different characters before I found a few I really like. Try playing around with different characters to find one that interests you. Make up an origins story for each as you create it and define it's look. Play them to 3rd or 4th level before giving up on them. When you hit one that sparks your imagination, play it. Delete the others.

Basically, your mains are a tanker and a blaster. These are the simplest classes and are kinda boring. (I don't play my blaster and I had to make up an interesting background and personality for my tanker before I could stand to play one.) Try a controller or defender. Much more interesting and challenging to play.

But Bill... It's no fun for us to try to convince you to play. :?

Either a person enjoys the game or they don't. I've been playing regularly with Mark and Semi-regularly with Bud. They enjoy the game and we always have fun playing together, even when we die and get some experience debt.

But for you, there's just something about the game that doesn't capture your imagination/interest, at least not enough to pursue it. It's nobody's fault, it's just the way it is.

I luv ya Bill, but I just don't want to force you to do something you don't enjoy.
