Maybe we should switch to EVE Online then.

Unfortunately, Eve looks R E A L L Y b o r i n g; mostly trading and mining. :( And I still can't make a naked female toon, damn it!

Maybe we should design our own game.

I would like to see a game loosely based on the Firefly 'verse.

Star Trek Online is also in the works...

Now that I'd play.

I saw the coolest license-plate frame the other day on a co-worker's car. It said, "I am a leaf on the wind, watch how I soar."

There's a part of me that screams out in horror at the thought of that.

Now if I could just keep the game running.
I have a hunch I may be having sound driver issues as well.

Make sure your in-game audio is set for software-stereo. I had mine set for HW surround sound and it kept crashing. It's likely the fault of your audio drivers, not the game.

It appears I am far from alone with the crashes I'm experiencing with DDO.

There's a scheduled update (patch) tomorrow. Perhaps they're addressing the problem. But I won't hold my breath.

Yeah, I suspect they're doing something naughty with direct sound (or most likely, they're expecting it to behave as it should when everybody else knows it doesn't).

I was fortunate that switching to SW stereo fixed it on my system. I had a pretty hard crash, every time in about the same place it would kill my client. I hope they fix it.

With another week and a half left on my 30-day free trial of DDO, it's not lookin' good.

Some things are workin':
Great graphics
Decent replication of D&D Combat and Spells system
Great quests
Good leveling system with rewards along the way.

But more things aren't:
Almost impossible to solo, forcing grouping or not playing
Initially, players are area-restricted. You have to do a series of quests to get further into the city, otherwise there's not much you can do at all.
Combat is too mouse intensive. If you don't move quickly, you die.

I'd have to second all those statements.

I cancelled my account today. Turbine (the game developer) asks, in exit survey format, for feedback to determine why you are leaving. Here is what I wrote.

Let people explore, for heaven's sake! You limit all new characters to a small part of the city and force them to go through the same rigamarole of quests to get past city gates. BOOORRRIINNGGG!!

EverQuest allowed you to explore the entire world from the get-go. The risk of character death is imminent, but to be confined to a small area and a strict storyline is not in the least bit attractive and does not represent the game of Dungeons & Dragons well, whatsoever.

This is why I try to be careful about what games I choose. The D&D name pulled me right in but the game was like the first movie: could have been done really well, but turned out a waste of money. Good-bye to that $50.

OUCH!!

Glad I don't have a system that can support the game.

Now, where's my Dragons?

It's a great day to be with my wife,

Well, I canceled my subscription too. I cited similar reasons to Bill's.

Sad.
