 Congratulationa to Randy Pobst !
Winner of the GT class at the Daytona 24 and fellow SCCA autocrosser!

Pobst, Levitas, Baas, and Pumpelly finished first in GT and (IIRC) 9th overall in a field of 30 prototypes and 28 GT cars. Well done boys!

Oh, and last year's Indy 500 winner Dan Wheldon was on the overall winning team along with a Nascar regular Scott Dixon and Mexican hero Luis Diaz.

Congrats all!

Grand Am Race at PIR Saturday, 5/13!

New postby Bud » Sun Apr 30, 2006 6:19 pm

Grand Am is coming to Phoenix International Raceway, Saturday May 13. This is one of my favorite series and the only road race we get in Phoenix. So, this is the only chance for a year to attend a world-class road racing event without leaving the valley of the sun. I'd really love it of some of you guys would go with me. These things are more fun with friends and I'm sure the kids would love it (for those of you with kids).

General Admision on Saturday is $25 and I believe kids under 12 are free. (And, there's a $7 dollar transaction fee.)

Here's the Saturday schedule:

12:00-12:40 Fan Laps
12:45-1:00 GS Recon Laps
1:00-3:00 GS Cup Race
3:15-3:45 DP Practice
3:45-4:00 ST Recon Laps
4:00-6:00 ST Cup Race
6:10-6:30 Rolex Recon Laps
6:30-9:15 Rolex/GrandAm Sports Car Race

There's also a wide array of other events happening Thursday thorugh Saturday, including autocross & rallycross events, Nissan arive-n-drive, drift & stunt exibitions, and other stuff presented by GT Live:

I'm interested, but it'll all depend on how Dad's doing. Will keep you posted.

I really want to go with you this weekend. I'm interested. But RL priorities take precedence (work/kids on Sat., moms on Sun.). <sigh> :?

It doesn't get any more real then hurtling toward a hairpin corner at 180 MPH.

I heard an expression of intrest about open-wheel racing. The F1 Grand Prix of Monaco is airing tonight on SPEED at 7:00. I'll have it on TiVo if anybody's interested in getting together for a beer and the F1 race.

Let me correct that last post.

This is a fantastic weekend for open wheel (Formula 1 style) racing. There are two big open-wheel races this weekend, the Grand Prix of Monaco and the Indy 500. Both happen Sunday morning. Of course, I will be at work Sunday morning, so I'll have both TiVos going. If anybody'd like to get together Sunday afternoon/evening or Monday for the holiday and watch the races, sing out.

This is a good chance to see the difference between American and International open-wheel racing.

 And it starts with Controversy!

Micheal Schumacher, 7-time world champion and perhaps best F1 driver of all time, was stripped of his pole position qualifying effort due to cheating.

Bummer for Schumacher, unless he really did brake hard intentionally as they judged after reviewing tape. Not sure if I can break away this holiday weekend. But sure wouldn't mind watching some of the Indy 500 with ya, Bud. :drive:
