Local autocrosser badly injured

New postby Bud » Wed Dec 21, 2005 7:52 pm

At this month's autocross event, which I missed due to my job change, a local autocrosser (Richard Vela) was injured badly and had to have a leg amputated. I just found out about it today. I was stunned when I went to check the results and see how my buddies did and discovered this news. He was sitting near the timing trailor when a driver lost control and struck him, pinning him against the trailor's tongue.

Although I don't know Richard well, this strikes close to home as it could have very easily been me. I usually hang out by the timing trailor myself. A relief fund has been set up to help him and his family through this tough time. The link is below, if you'd like to donate.

Here's the story of what happened from the 240SX forum.

Here's the discussion on the local autocross board.

And, here's the relief fund.
